"I started attending the Grief Support group offered by Sara’s House of Hope in August 2021 following my daughter Megan’s death by overdose on May 2, 2021.

I was very nervous about attending such a meeting but I can honestly say that I felt very at home and safe from the first moment in that first meeting.

Lori and Terry are such kind and caring people. As soon as I met them I knew I would benefit from being a part of the group.  They were able to combine traditional grief support with supportive understanding from others who had also suffered a loss due to substance use disorder. I was able to voice my feelings within these group meetings and be met with understanding and compassionate support.

Being with other parents who had suffered a similar loss helped me greatly. I was so stunned and lost in those early days in 2021. Lori and Terry showed me by their example that I could get through the pain and loss.

They, as well as the grief counselors, provided me with the tools to find a way to coexist with the grief and not allow it to just consume me. In some meetings, I may have just needed the grief counseling piece and in other meetings, I needed to hear how other parents coped with the addiction of their child.

I greatly admire Lori and Terry for the way they were able to move along their grief journey and found Sara’s House of Hope.  I feel they provide a much-needed service in our community. I’ve enjoyed watching the growth of their organization. They understand that this disease has a long reach. Through the programs they offer, they are trying to support the parents, grandparents, siblings, and children of those who suffer from substance use disorder.

I think they were very wise when they named their organization. The main thing Lori and Terry offer is HOPE.

No matter how dire the situation may be their goal is to offer support and hope."
